For a second, imagine Taylor Swift walking down the street of your hometown. The Swifties would go nuts. They would follow her everywhere, and most of them would do just about anything to get a picture of her and stand next to her for just one second. This is why she has private security.
Jesus didn’t have security, so as he was walking to Jairus’ house, the people were trying to get to him. People were pressing all around Jesus, trying to get near him, and one of those people was a little woman who had been sick for twelve years (remember her from Part 1).
Let’s stop right here for a history lesson. In Jewish Culture during Jesus’ day, women were second-class citizens. They didn’t own property and, most of the time were usually considered property. When a woman suffered the type of illness this woman did, she was required by law to stay in the house, not to touch anyone, could not associate with others, and could not go to church. This woman had been sick and alone for twelve years. Think back to the COVID year (2020); many people (maybe even you) felt isolated and alone. Now imagine that for TWELVE YEARS.
For this woman just being outside was breaking the law, but she had nothing left to lose. She had lost everything in the past twelve years, and Jesus was her last hope. She had heard about the miracles and the healings that Jesus had been performing all over the country and she thought,
“If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed."
She pressed through the crowd of men, and in the chaos, she was able to just touch just the edge of his garment. Immediately a change happened inside of her. She was HEALED and she knew it. However, knowing that she had broken the law she tried to hurry off.
Jesus knew that someone had touched him, and that touch was different than the men just trying to crowd around him. He stopped, looked, and found her. The woman was so afraid that she was going to get into trouble that she came and fell at his feet, and she just started telling him her life story. And you know what? Jesus listened to every word.
He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you.”
Wait! In part one, it was stated that Jesus comes to us, but Jesus wasn’t coming to this woman. He was walking past her. True, but Jesus still crossed the sea to get to her. He put himself in a situation where she could reach out and touch him.
Sometimes, that one step that you must make towards Jesus is extremely difficult, Sometimes, that one step that you must make towards Jesus is extremely difficult, Sometimes, that one step that you must make towards Jesus is extremely difficult,
When Jesus came to this woman, she was broken and all alone. She may have felt that her only hope was to be able to touch Jesus, so she fought through that crowd and touched him. Jesus stopped, looked, and came to her when she did that.
Jesus found you. You may have been broken and desperate like this woman. Whatever your situation in life is, He came to you because he loves you and is genuinely interested in you. Yes, you. The step that you had to take to get to him may have been difficult (for anybody), but in the end, it was so worth it.
