Since you are just starting out in your prayer journey with Jesus, these are just six tips to help you start learning how to pray. You will be learning how to pray the rest of your life.
"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Making Time for Prayer: Have a specific time that you set aside for prayer. The time is up to you, whether it is in the morning when you wake up, during a break in your day, or maybe right before you go to bed. Really, it is up to you. Set alarms on your phone to remind you because life does get busy. Do things to help you make your prayer time a priority.
Find a Quiet Place: Find a quiet place where you can focus and speak freely with Jesus. It could be in your room, a favorite spot in the park, or even during your daily drive to work/school.
Start with Gratitude: Begin your prayer by expressing gratitude to Jesus for His love, grace, and all the blessings in your life. Thank Him for loving you and dying for you.
Confess: Take time to confess your sins and ask for forgiveness. Jesus is loving and merciful, and He is always ready to forgive us when we come to Him with a repentant heart.
Ask: Share your needs, desires, and concerns with Jesus. He cares about every detail of your life; no request is too small for Him.
Listen: Prayer is a two-way conversation. He wants to speak to you through His Word or maybe a gentle whisper. You must take the time and listen to Him. It is the hardest thing for us to do sometimes. So, take time and be quiet!
As you begin your prayer journey, don’t forget that Jesus wants a personal relationship with you.
