The best part about a Madden game is that you can customize your favorite player. You customize every aspect of the player; looks, swag, abilities, and a lot more. It is so much fun to play with a customized character. We live in a world where customization is everywhere - from our phones, games, to our clothes - it's easy to think we can customize everything, even Jesus.
But here's the thing: Jesus isn't like a customizable character in a video game. He's not someone we can change to fit our preferences. The story of “Doubting Thomas” shows us doubt is a natural part of faith, and even the ones that walked along with Jesus experienced doubts.
"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." - Hebrews 13:8
Imagine if you could change Jesus to be exactly how you want Him to be. You might make Him always agree with you, never challenge you, and only do what makes you feel good. That would be awesome, right? But that's not who Jesus is. Jesus is who He is, and He's not going to change.
When you try to customize Jesus, you're not really following Him. You’re just following a version of Him that you have made up. If you are following a version of Jesus that you made up, then who are you really following? THINK ABOUT IT.
Jesus calls us to follow Him as He is, not as you want Him to be.
He doesn't change based on our preferences or trends. He's the unchanging rock we can always rely on. He doesn't change based on our preferences or trends. He's the unchanging rock we can always rely on. He doesn't change based on our preferences or trends. He's the unchanging rock we can always rely on.
He is the one thing that you can look to that is steady and unwavering. In a world where nothing stays the same, it is refreshing to know that Jesus will be Jesus in good or bad times.
So, instead of trying to customize Jesus, let's get to know who He is. Jesus reveals Himself throughout the Bible, so read it. Spend time in prayer, ENGAGE in a church, and do whatever you need to do to get to know Jesus. Allow Jesus to customize you, rather than you trying to customize Him.
Remember, Jesus loves you just the way you are. He doesn't need to be customized to fit your life because He already fits perfectly into it. So, once you are ready it is time to dive deeper into your relationship with Jesus. It is time for Stage 3.
